How to cook steak in a pan without butter or oil
I am going to share if you how I cook any steak in a frying pan, on the stove without using any butter or oil. You don’t even need a cast iron pan. But is the steak good? YES! It is amazing!
Why would you want to cook a steak in a pan without oil or butter? To save calories, of course!
Depending on the cut, steak can range from 160 calories per 4 ounce serving and up… So let’s say you get a sirloin that has 200 calories per 4 ounces, according to the Internet. I need 6 ounces to be full, so that will take me to 300 calories per steak. Now, what will make this a heavy and calorie dense food is how you are going to cook it.
I will show you how you can cook a steak to a perfection without adding ANY extra calories! And it will taste amazing! This technique is good for all types of steaks.

This method is good for any half an inch to 2 inch thick steak. I have tried many different cuts of meat and every time it was a slam dunk.
It is important that you remove your cut of steak from refrigerator at least an hour before cooking (2 hours, preferably). Steak has to be close to room temperature to cook perfectly inside. If you omit this step, it will take longer to get your desired temperature and you risk getting less tasty steak.
Pat the steak dry and season with salt and pepper.
Preheat the pan on a medium high heat. Make sure the pan is hot before you put steak in it. You should get a nice hissing sound if the pan is heated well. The key is to fry it, not boil it. If the pan is not hot enough, the meat will boil and not brown.
The cooking time per side will vary depending on how you like it cooked. I like my steaks to be cooked medium rare. It usually takes 3 to 4 minutes per side for 2 inch steak (the thinner the steak the less time it will take). But to know when it is time to flip or when the steak is ready is a skill and you will figure it out with time. Best advice I can give you is to check whether the steak browned and flip.
Season on the other side with salt and pepper.
Lightly touch the steak to see if it is done. See the video (minute 8:40) Make sure to rest the meat before cutting for at least 8-10 minutes. If you cut it too early all the juices will run out and leave you with a rather dry steak.
My light and creamy mashed potatoes go very well with this steak. Brussel sprouts with bacon can also add tons of flavor. But maybe you a salad kind of human? Check this lighter version of Caesar salad.
